Lily Short has had a busy holiday break competing in State Championships in Equestrian and is now the Queensland Interschool State Champion.
Lily competed for Glasshouse Christian College against the very best primary riders in Queensland and won! She is the QLD State Primary Champion for the 90cm-1m class and gained selection into the Queensland team to compete at the National Championships. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 this competition will not be held this year which is disappointing for Lily. She is so thrilled with her results!
Lily received a beautiful perpetual trophy, a Queensland State Team Horse blanket, a large QLD winners ribbon and several others, a QLD team badge and certificates.
Lily rode two horses in this competition, Sonny and Tommy who are both very experienced jumpers. The competition was held over three days and the placings and times were calculated to find the State Champion. The format of the competition varies each day with competitors needing to jump a clear round to proceed to the next round and then complete the course in the fastest time. Another event requires them to ride and jump steady for the first six jumps and then race the clock over the final six jumps. Lily loves her horses and is a brave and determined rider who gets the best from them in competition situations.
Lily finished five points ahead of second place, a rider who had beaten her the previous weekend in the Club State Championships where Lily finished as Reserve Champion by just one point! Lily competed for her Pony Club and was leading the competition until she had a stumble towards the end of the competition and dropped a position to finish second.
Tyler Short also competed in the Interschool State Championships and placed third in the state in his age group which is also a fantastic result. We look forward to following Lily and Tyler over the years to come.
