History made: District Athletics Champions!

After two days of fantastic competition, our Primary Athletics Team became Glasshouse District Champions for 2021! This win gives us every District Championship in one year for the first time ever! We have made history by winning Glasshouse District Swimming, Cross Country and now Athletics titles.

The carnival was held at Beerwah State High School due to upgrades being done at Skippy Park. This was a fantastic venue and allowed students to watch many events while not competing themselves.

Competition was strong with many different schools having talented athletes in different events meaning points were spread between many schools. 12 year olds Ruben Coombs and Ashton van Stratten dominated the 12 year boys competition pushing each other over the two days although an injury did hinder Ashton in some events.

Several students won multiple events which earned them valuable Age Champion points. Congratulations to Ruben Coombs (12 boys), Izaac Kwarcianyi (10 boys), Kai Carter (9 boys) who were Age Champions and Sophie Doyle who is the Runner Up 9 Girls Age Champion.

We are very proud of the ten students who were selected to represent the Glasshouse District at the Sunshine Coast Regional Athletics Championships. They are Izaac Kwarcianyi, Eli Smith, Kobe Adamson, Ruben Coombs, Ashton Van Straten, Ava Scott, Breeanna Aldridge, Evie Morgan, Estah Muller, Indigo Hetherington, Aliana Shiel.

Our relays teams were impressive within many wins and top three placings earning valuable points towards the trophy. Students enjoyed being part of these teams and many gained ribbons from the top three placings.

Our GCC team earned the most points over the two days of competition to win the District Champion title but we were also Runners Up in the Average Score Trophy which divides the team’s points by the number of students in the school. It was fantastic to earn these two placings.

Students competed to the best of their ability and demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout the carnival. Many personal best performances were achieved and students supported each other really well. It was great to have so many parents cheering our students on too – we all really appreciated this.

What a great effort from the whole team – congratulations!
