In Week 7 of Term 1, Year 4 went to Luther Heights in Coolum Beach, for an adventure camp. The wonderful and unique location of Luther Heights on the Sunshine Coast meant that the beautiful beach was within walking distance, we were surrounded by amazing views, fun activities, delicious food and a very welcoming and professional team of instructors. While all of us have limits, the camp gave students unique opportunities to grow in a way that was different from their ‘norm’. Students were encouraged to push and reframe limits but in a safe and nurturing environment.
The most challenging activities were the crate climb, the flying fox and the koala climb. These activities pushed students out of their comfort zones, and we saw many achieve beyond even what they thought was possible. The beach games were also a firm favourite and focused on building teamwork through various group challenges. All of those activities focused on stretching the imagination, building teamwork, confidence and trust in each other. Some students were very nervous but we supported each other and cheered each other on which led to many people having a go and overcoming their limitations and stepping out of their comfort zones.
The sense of community that was developed over the camp was a great blessing to us all. We shared stories, encouraging words while developing and nurturing relationships with friends and teachers. We found out new things about each other that we never knew before! It was a wonderful time to make new friendships and strengthen existing ones. Camp was so much fun!
