Write a Book in a Day – A Wonderful Success

On Tuesday, 26 August, students from Glasshouse Christian College took part in the annual Write a Book in a Day competition, a fun and creative challenge where teams plan, write, and illustrate a complete book in just one day. The completed books are shared digitally with children in hospitals across Australia, bringing joy and inspiration to young readers facing difficult circumstances.

This year, our school entered two teams from Middle School and the Primary. The Middle School team included Sarah N, Sarannah L, Xane T, Harriet S, Nina I, and Allegra C. While the Primary team was made up of Evie C (Team Captain), Zoe W, Maddison P, Pippa R, Serena C, and Scarlett F. Both teams have been preparing for weeks, attending practice sessions to build their skills in planning, writing, and illustrating stories.

The challenge day was filled with energy, teamwork, and creativity. By the end of the day, the Middle School team had produced their imaginative story, The War and the Wisdom Owl, while the Primary team completed their exciting tale, Jungle and Jewels. Both books are now part of a wonderful collection being shared with hospital patients across the country.

An important part of Write a Book in a Day is supporting The Kids’ Cancer Project, which funds vital scientific research into better treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we raised over $1,500, which was well above the $300 sponsorship requirement.

It was a privilege to work with the students and help organise this event. We are incredibly proud of both teams for their creativity, perseverance, and teamwork, and grateful to our community for their generous support.

Well done, teams, what an amazing achievement!
