This term has been action-packed. I am not sure if we could’ve fit one more sporting event into this term if we tried. Thank you to all staff, students, and families who supported the many sporting opportunities this term. It has been wonderful to see so many students involved, giving things a go, and representing the college at multiple sporting events. Enjoy reading all the news here submitted by Mr Bennett and Ms Noble.
Independent District Swimming Carnival

GCC swimmers made a big splash at the 9 to 12 years District Swimming Carnival, delivering incredible performances in the Sunshine Coast Grammar School pool. Students competed against schools across the district and showcased impressive skill, determination, and sportsmanship in every race.
Students participated in a variety of swimming events, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and team relays. The GCC team spirit was exceptional, with teammates cheering each other on and representing the College with pride.
Congratulations to the GCC district swim team for the great sportsmanship and behaviour they demonstrated at the event.
Independent District Sport Representatives

Each year, large numbers of students register to trial for multiple Independent District Sports, driven by their love of the game, personal dedication to excellence, and enjoyment of high-level competition.
These trials are incredibly competitive, with students often competing against a large number of talented athletes from other schools for a position on an Independent District team.
The GCC spirit of students consistently rises to the challenge, demonstrating exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship. We are thrilled to congratulate the following GCC students who were selected to represent an Independent District Team.

Celebrating GCC Staff’s Commitment to Sport

Beck Flemming: 10-11 yrs Girls Netball Coach
Mr Bennett and Amy Quilliam: 10-12 yrs Girls Touch Football
The Independent District Sport pathway provides students the opportunity to compete at an elite level across more than 50 district sports each year. Behind every trial, training session, and carnival is a team of passionate teachers and staff who dedicate their time as coaches and managers, making these opportunities possible
A huge thank you to Primary Sports Coach Beck Fleming, the 10–11 years Girls District Netball Coach, and to Mr Bennett and Primary Sports Coach Amy Quilliam, who serve as the 10–12 years Girls Touch Football Coach and Manager, respectively. We are grateful for the dedication our staff bring to these roles. Their hard work and enthusiasm make it possible for students to enjoy rewarding and memorable sporting experiences each year.
SCISSA Friendly Competition
This year SCISSA made the addition to include a third school for each Friendly. This allowed students a larger group of teams to compete against while also offering a broader range of hosting venues and skill levels. This term alone, GCC played against students from other colleges, including ILC, PLC, NCC and SCGS. All students are looking forward to putting their training into action and competing against a larger group of colleges within SCISSA at the upcoming Gala Day event on the last day of term.

PE Swimming Intensive Week
This term, students from Years 1 to 6 have been diving into their PE lessons with a splash, through a weekly swimming intensive program focused on building water confidence, improving swimming techniques and stroke development.
BlueFit swimming instructors placed students in one of three levelled swimming groups, where they participated in small group lessons. Students worked on building water safety while developing their strokes in freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke. All swimmers made great progress and gained confidence in and around the water.
It was wonderful to see so many students enjoying their time in the pool this term.

Surf Awareness Program
Students in Years 5 and 6 recently participated in a Surf Awareness program, delivered by the Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club. The program was engaging and highly valuable, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge through hands-on learning and real-life scenarios.
We look forward to building on this strong foundation next year, continuing to develop safer and more confident beachgoers.

Primary Swimming Carnival – A Splashing Success!
The Primary Swimming Carnival made a fantastic debut at the new venue, Caloundra Aquatic Centre, delivering an action-packed day full of energy, enthusiasm, and school spirit. With a fresh format featuring six exciting rotations, students were constantly engaged in a variety of activities, ensuring there was never a dull moment.
The sunny weather set the perfect scene, while music blasted across the venue and House war cries echoed poolside, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Students gave their all in the pools, competing in both 50m and 25m races. The events showcased great performances and an outstanding level of participation across all year levels, a true highlight of the day.
It was especially pleasing to see so many parents present, cheering, and contributing to the positive environment.
Congratulations to all House Teams;
Sinai – 797 points
Zion – 610 points
Ararat- 542 points
Overall, the Carnival was a tremendous success, celebrating not just competition, but teamwork, sportsmanship, participation, and school pride. Please click here for more action-packed photos captured by Mrs Timmer.

AFL Superkick PE Program
GCC students were lucky enough to have the NAB AFL Superkick coaches visit to deliver PE lessons, giving them a teaser of their program designed for Primary-aged students. Students developed their skills through fun, modified games while bridging the gap between Auskick and junior club football. The program focuses on building confidence, teamwork, and kicking and marking skills in a low-pressure environment.
External Sport Programs

This term, several students registered for the external sport programs on offer at GCC. Some enjoyed the waves at the early morning surfing program run by North Caloundra Surf School, while others were kept busy developing their sporting skills in Coach Kodan’s Skateboarding Program. Some students practised tennis drills with the TWP Tennis program under Coach Mark, while others chose to participate in the Early Morning Cross Country Training Program. Overall, it has been a fantastic term of participation, skill development, and enthusiasm across all programs.
