Primary Sport After School & Before School Sporting Programs
This term, Primary Sport finished the year with a bang offering students a multitude of sporting opportunities delivered through external providers.
Brisbane Active Football Program
The team from Brisbane Active Football delivered another successful program in Term 4, with roughly 25 students from Prep – Year 6 participating. One highlight for students was the inflatable soccer field set-up for their final session. Andy and his team from Brisbane Active Football will return to the College in Terms 2 and 4 of 2025, so keep a lookout for registration information next year.

TWP Tennis
Coach Mark continued providing his tennis skills development program to students this term. Mark engages students with fun and competitive skills and drills activities aimed at improving students’ tennis technique and game understanding. Mark will continue to offer this program in Term 1 of 2025, so keep a lookout for registration information next year.

North Caloundra Surf School
This term a handful of students seized the opportunity to experience the wonderful early morning beach conditions by participating in the surfing program run through North Caloundra Surf School. On Tuesday mornings at 6:30 am, students met surf coaches Russel, Kylie and Joey at Caloundra beaches for their surf lessons. These coaches have been longtime favourites for GCC students over the years.

SCISSA Gala Day #4
Year 4 – 6 students finished the year of SCISSA with GALA Day #4, versing other Independent Schools at an array of venues on the Sunshine Coast. Once again we celebrate the efforts of GCC students, as they displayed great sportsmanship and team camaraderie both on and off the fields and courts. At the end of the day, the scores from all games are combined to produce the final GALA Day results. Please view the information below to see where GCC teams placed. Div C teams are Year 4 students only, while Div B and A can be a mix of both Year 5 and Year 6 students.

Sports Awards

The annual GCC Primary Sports Awards ceremony is always a highly anticipated and high-profile event for GCC Sport. This ceremony celebrates the sporting success of our Primary students overall, including acknowledging:
- Age Champions for all Primary Sports Carnivals,
- MVPs for the Semester 1 and Semester 2 SCISSA Teams
- Sporting Excellence Awards for Gold, Silver and Bronze
- The 2024 Sports Dedication Award Recipient, and
- The Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year for 2024
As a PE and Sports Department, we aspire to encourage all students in their sporting endeavours and celebrate the courage, drive, and strength it takes for all students to achieve their best throughout the year.
We are equally proud of the winning students and the participating students; the winning teams and the teams who may fall short of a placing. We are celebrating the student who may have tripped and fallen in a race, only to get back up and make it to the finish line. The students who swam in all the participation races and contributed points to their House Team. The students who dusted themselves off and kept team spirits high when they lost a game in SCISSA. Finally, the student who gave everything a try in PE and sporting opportunities this year.
Congratulations to the following students who were awarded prestigious sports awards for 2024:
Primary Sports Dedication Award: Levi Dewar
Primary Sportswoman of the Year: Hayley Wall
Primary Sportsman of the Year: Ethan Doyle

State Athletics Competitors
Asher Jones, Lincoln Graham, Ethan Doyle and Sophie Doyle qualified to compete earlier this term at the State Athletics Carnival.
Sophie Doyle and Ethan Doyle both finished 6th in their 1500m, running personal best times against the toughest competition in the State. Ethan ran a 5.01 and Sophie ran a sonic speed of 4.52.
Asher Jones ran a personal best time in his 1500m placing 15th, and placed 16th in his 800m event. While Ethan also qualified for Long Jump he withdrew from competing on the day.
Lincoln Graham took flight through a torrential downpour and placed 5th in Long Jump. It was such a tight competition that between his jump and 2nd place there was only 5cm.
