Last Friday GCC Readers Cup Teams from Years 5 – 10 met up over breakfast to celebrate their year of ‘Marathon’ reading. Amidst the mouthfuls of marvellous food, there was of course time to chat about life and story plots of course. Students who are keen readers eagerly pass on recommendations for favourite reads and enthusiastically compete for air time to share about their latest favourite or their best read of all time. It was also great to see the excitement of the Year 7s as they reminisced about their win in the extra-close Year 7 competition held at the beginning of the term. They are already asking about the Competitions for the 2025 Readers Cup!
An extra-special part of the morning meet-up was to congratulate Isabella Buckland on six years of outstanding commitment to participating in Readers Cup events. From an eager Year 5 competitor right through to her final competition in Year 10, Isabella has enthusiastically challenged herself and her teammates to immerse themselves in the diverse stories and enjoy preparing for the competitions. We have benefited from her insightful perspective during the discussions and quizzes and her tenacity to read right up to the last minute!
Although Isabella’s RC Competition days conclude in Year 10, we are certain that she will continue to encourage younger readers to take on the challenge of diving into an inspiring story! Thank you for all the fantastic recommendations of stories in your ‘Recap on Readers Cup’ article – it makes a great holiday reading list! Congratulations Isabella for your commitment to reading, representing GCC at competitions and for inspiring us all to give reading a go!
