SCISSA Friendly Competition
As part of their preparation for the upcoming Gala Day, Year 4-6 students put their sporting skills to the test in a SCISSA Friendly match against NCC students earlier this term. From teamwork and determination to sportsmanship and skill, students represented the college with enthusiasm and energy across a wide range of sports and competition levels. The day was filled with exciting competition, great teamwork, and plenty of fun, providing students with valuable experience ahead of competing against a larger group of colleges in the weeks to come.
Unfortunately, due to wet weather, the scheduled SCISSA three-way Friendly match against Matthew Flinders Anglican College and Suncoast Christian College was cancelled. We look forward to competing against these schools later in the year and continuing to build positive competition and connections between independent schools on the Sunshine Coast.
SCISSA Gala #1 + # 2
SCISSA Gala Day 1 + 2 provided students with an excellent opportunity to put into practice the skills, strategies and game awareness they had developed throughout the term. Following weeks of training sessions and a Friendly match against NCC, students represented the school with enthusiasm, participating in four to six games against a range of SCISSA schools from across the Sunshine Coast. Both days provided valuable opportunities for participation, teamwork, and skill development as students applied their learning in a competitive and supportive environment.

Upper Primary Cross Country Carnival
With a newly mapped Cross Country course, Years 3-6 students were eager to experience the fresh track for the first time. We were blessed to enjoy excellent weather, along with great music and enthusiastic cheering from all House teams, as students made their way to the finish line. The event showcased strong participation, House spirit, and a positive atmosphere throughout the morning of races. Thank you to the course guide riders of this year, Mr and Mrs Palmer, who put in a massive effort riding back to back races at top speed. Independent District Cross Country Carnival
Students competed on a slippery, muddy track at the Independent District Cross Country Carnival, with some races taking place during heavy downpours. Despite the challenging weather conditions, smiles, excitement and nervous energy were tangible, with some races featuring more than 50 competitors on the start line.
Glasshouse Christian College finished in 7th place, ahead of Suncoast Christian College, Nambour Christian College, Caloundra Christian College, and Caloundra City Private School, on overall school points.
Congratulations to all students who represented the College as part of the District Cross Country Team for their outstanding performances and for demonstrating pride and excellent sportsmanship throughout the afternoon of races.
Special mention to the 9 year old competitors, especially the top six placegetters: Charli Searle, who finished 5th, and Xander Formby, who placed 4th. Unfortunately, the 9 year olds do not progress through to the Regional pathway. Please view the race photos from the event HERE.

District Cross Country Qualifiers and Regional Cross Country Results
Strong performances at the District Cross Country Carnival saw Ethan Doyle (12 Years) place 1st and Charlie Olds (11 Years) place 3rd, with both students qualifying for the Regional Cross Country Carnival in Noosa. Both students represented the College with determination and resilience, running strongly in a highly competitive field.
At the Regional Carnival, Ethan achieved an outstanding 3rd-place finish, earning qualification to the State Cross Country Carnival. Charlie also performed admirably, finishing 24th in his age group.
Congratulations to both Ethan and Charlie on their excellent achievements and for representing the College so well in a high level carnival.

Upper Primary Athletics Carnival

After a term where it seemed the rain would never stop, we were grateful for beautiful weather for the Upper Primary Athletics Carnival at the UniSC Track and Field Complex.
Blue skies and a crisp winter breeze provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable day of competition, sportsmanship, and school spirit. The carnival showcased outstanding athletic performances, with several long-standing records being broken and students embracing the new carnival format and program. Lower Primary Cross Country Carnival

Praise God for bringing out the sunshine for our Prep – Year 2 Cross Country Carnival! It was a fantastic afternoon filled with enthusiasm, determination, and plenty of House spirit. It was wonderful to see every student giving their best effort, demonstrating perseverance, and proudly representing their House team. Whether sprinting for a place or simply striving to finish their race, each student should be commended for their participation and sportsmanship.
A huge thank you to our parent supporters and Year 6 student helpers, whose encouragement, enthusiasm, and positive energy helped create a fun and supportive atmosphere for all participants. Congratulations to all students who achieved 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in their events, and a special congratulations to our Age Champions for their outstanding performances.
Thank you to the many staff who worked behind the scenes to ensure the success of the Junior Cross Country event, from the IT Department to the Property Team. Despite the morning rain, Gardner Scott went above and beyond by firing up the tractor and spreading mulch to cover puddles along the track, helping to keep conditions safe and enjoyable for all participants. While Chris stayed on hand to assist with sound throughout the afternoon.

Sporting Programs and Training Opportunities
Throughout Term 2, students had the opportunity to participate in a range of school-based programs designed to develop skills in preparation for upcoming carnivals and representative pathways. These included Early Morning Cross Country Training, Early Morning Athletics Training, and Early Morning District Cross Country Training, where students were encouraged to push their boundaries and build endurance while developing their skills and fitness.
Students also participated in a range of externally provided programs designed to develop skills, fitness and confidence across a variety of sports. These included AFL Auskick and Supakick sessions, as well as tennis coaching provided through TWP Tennis. Coach Kodan also delivered another term of Skateboarding sessions, allowing students to further develop their skills in a fun, safe and engaging environment.

Regional Sport Qualifiers
Throughout the year, students trial for selection in District Sport teams. Following the District trial, Regional selectors attend to identify and select players from across the districts to form Regional teams, who then compete at the State Carnival.
Van Neucom was selected as part of the Rugby Regional team following strong performances throughout the competition pathway. We wish Van the best of luck at the State Carnival.

Year 6 Students’ Volleyball Success
Year 6 students Leo Tarry, Hugh McLean and Mason Beattie recently represented GCC at the Trish Buckley Volleyball Tournament, where they achieved an outstanding second-place finish overall. Competing in the Year 7 division against older students, the boys played a pivotal role in their team’s success throughout the tournament. Their efforts culminated in a strong performance against Caloundra High School in the final match, securing the silver medal for their team. The Boys team continues to play in the Secondary SCISSA team, where they are so far undefeated after 5 games.
Leo, Hugh, and Mason now look forward to representing GCC in the Primary SCISSA competition next term, where they will continue to develop and transfer their skills onto the court.

The Year 6 girls have been playing alongside Middle School students in the Wednesday afternoon SCISSA Volleyball competition.
The Junior Girls B team includes Year 6 students Dakoda Taylor, Matilda Newton, Matilda Molloy, Scarlett Farrer, Scarlett Ashley and Samantha Nettlefold. So far, they have won three out of their five SCISSA games.
