Over the past three Fridays, GCC Year 5 and 6 touch football teams have competed in the Glasshouse District Interschool Touch Competition. The teams all won, drew and lost some games but improved as the competition went on.
The teams played three or four games each week in what turned out to be very hot conditions. The teams combined well and showed great determination and sportsmanship towards the opposition.
The A Girls and A Boys both finished in third place overall which were great results as the A division had some very good teams in it. Elimbah were the standout team in the girls competition and St Michael’s and Maleny fought out the boys final with Maleny getting the win.
In the B Boys competition our boys were sitting in second place coming into the final day but Year 5 camp seemed to have drained our team and they lacked the fire they had showed during the previous weeks. They played off for third and fourth and finished fourth overall from 11 teams.
The B Girls team were very new to touch football but scored some great tries and defended well. They finished sixth overall from 11 teams which was a great effort.
Everyone enjoyed the games and learned lots about touch football. It was great to have several parents cheering on each team which lifted the performance of the students. Next term AFL will be played and teams will be selected towards the end of this term for the Term 4 Interschool Competition.
