This week in Senior Chapels we were thrilled to have GodSpeed racing rider Trevor Wilson, who shared his life journey that took him to the Dakar Rally [think the Mount Everest for bikers!]. This epic rally sees elite riders race 14 hours a day for two weeks through deserts and dunes of nearly 8000 miles!
Trevor shared how his faith kept him going and encouraged through the race, even when two of his friends lost their lives as they raced. Trevor explained that faith in God for him is not just a set of beliefs he thinks about, those beliefs give him all he needs to get through life, like his own personal cheat sheet. He said that he looks to the Fruit of the Spirit as his toolbox for life and he digs in and focusses on a particular fruit for the moment.
During the race, Trevor was able to save a bikers life who had crashed by stopping his race, giving assistance and calling a media helicopter which took him to hospital. Getting back on his bike was really tough as he thought how fragile life can be, so he prayed and asked God to fill him with joy, not fear and went through the toughest section of the race with a positive attitude and no mishaps and knew that God was with him.
Trevor uses his racing to share the love of God and challenge people with his #What’s your end game? John 3:16 features on his helmet and bike and he loves opportunities to talk about how God has impacted his life for good with others. There was a lot of drooling on seeing his race bike which is customised for Trevor and each bike only lasts one race due to the brutal conditions.
Everyone loved Trevor’s positive attitude and go get approach to life as he challenged the students to see what God can do in their lives with their dreams.
