What a team we have! Three District Champions and eleven selected into the district team made this one of the best District Cross Country events for GCC.
Our Cross Country team put on a fantastic performance at the Glasshouse District Cross Country Championships. The fitness of our athletes shone through as they dominated the top ten placings in most races.
Hayden Cullen, Sophie Sharma and Bailey Whitmey lead for the duration of their two or three km race. All three looked comfortable and did not have their leads challenged throughout their races. They were all proud to receive their medals and better their times from the GCC cross country.
Ten year old Eadie Townsend ran a well calculated race and steadily worked her way through the field to finish strongly in second place. Isaac Kwarcianyi also finished in second place after running a brave race holding off challenging runners in a sprint finish up the home straight.
Indigo Hetherington and Charlotte Whalley ran really well to finish in fourth place as did Zander Carlson and Madyson Pearce finishing in fifth. Lachlan Brewster won a long sprint to the finish line to clinch the last qualifying spot in his 10 boys race.
These students also competed strongly – Aiden Hall, Bailey James, Kobe Adamson, Max Thornton, Micah Juste-Constant, Joshua Newsome, Estelle Collins, Alliana Shiel, Mahlia Shiel, and Stephanie Turnbull.
Many of these students have been training twice a week with Mrs Stott since March and this showed in their racing at this event. They all pushed themselves and used every bit of energy they had.
It was great to have parents at the cross country to cheer on our whole team – GCC cheering could be heard all around the oval. We look forward to seeing our students compete at the Sunshine Coast Cross Country Championships.
