Year 8 Students have been learning about the French speaking country Québec in Canada.
Did you know that the flag of Quebec is called the Fleurdelisé. Its white fleurs-de-lis (symbols of purity) and blue field (symbolizing Heaven) come from a banner honouring the Virgin Mary, reputedly carried by French-Canadian militia at General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm‘s victory at Carillon.
Did you also know that Québec is the largest producer of Maple syrup? Maple syrup is made from sap collected from maple trees during the early spring. Quebec harvested 7, 989,000 gallons last year.
To round off their research project on Québec the Year 8 Students each made a French crêpe and enjoyed a dash of Maple Syrup to taste.
Bon appétit!
