Iris is swimming to save lives

ReachOut : Laps for Life2022

This March, Iris, a Year 10 student at Glasshouse Christian College, is challenging herself to participate in Laps for Life for the third year in a row. She is swimming laps to raise much-needed funds for ReachOut – youth mental health services. Iris has set herself a target of swimming 20 kilometres and hopes to raise at least $1000. Can you help her reach her target?

The money Iris raises will help ReachOut offer youth mental health support for young people in our community and around Australia.

Trigger warning: Sadly, 1 in 4 young people are living with a mental health challenge in Australia, and suicide is still the leading cause of death for young people – more than cancer or car accidents. Covid-19 has added stress, anxiety, and uncertainty to our lives and further increased demand for services. In Australia, one young person takes their life each day – that’s one too many. Believe it or not, 7 out of 10 young people living with a mental health issue do not get help. Stigma and lack of understanding are leaving young people to cope alone. But we can do something to help.

By fundraising for ReachOut, Iris is raising critical funds to help young Australians every day. Every dollar you sponsor towards her Laps for Life journey, helps ReachOut get closer to their goal of helping all young people in Australia be happy and well.

Why swimming? Swimming laps is a great way to get your body moving and your heart pumping and it’s low impact. Swimming is also amazing for your mind. Whether you’re managing a mental health problem or just looking for a little relaxation, hitting the water can really help.  Please donate here:  https://www.lapsforlife.com.au/fundraisers/irisswims

Thank you for your support – it is truly appreciated.
