If Our School Had a Personality Type…

If schools had personality types, I sometimes wonder what ours would be.

Schools, like people, develop their own character over time. You can often sense it quite quickly. Some schools feel energetic and fast-paced. Others feel deeply academic, highly creative or strongly community-minded.

Perhaps the more interesting question is not “what kind of school are we trying to be?” but “what kind of people are we helping shape?”

In the middle of busy school life, it can be easy to focus on calendars, assessments, sporting fixtures and the endless collection of unnamed hats and drink bottles. Yet some of the most important parts of a school are often found in quieter moments.

A student noticing another child sitting alone.

An older student helping a younger one without being asked.

A teacher taking time to encourage a student who is finding something difficult.

These moments rarely appear on a prospectus, but they quietly shape the culture of a community.

As a school, we certainly don’t get everything perfect. Schools are wonderfully human places, full of growing young people and adults who are also still learning. But we do hope our community reflects something increasingly important in today’s world: kindness, humility, resilience and genuine connection.

As a Christian school, our faith reminds us that education is about far more than academic success alone. Micah 6:8 encourages us “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly.” In many ways, those simple qualities remain just as important as results, awards and achievements.

In the lead-up to Open Day, many families will consider what they value most in a school. Facilities, opportunities and academic pathways all have their place, but culture triumphs over all of these. It is the way people speak to one another. It is the sense of belonging students feel. It is the young men and women of great character that this community shapes over time.

Our Open Day is an opportunity to experience school life firsthand. To walk through classrooms, meet staff and students, ask questions and gain a sense of the community that exists here each day.

We would love to warmly invite families, friends and prospective parents to come along to our Open Day on Saturday, 16 May from 10am to 2pm.

Whether you are actively exploring schooling options or simply curious to learn more, you are most welcome.

Perhaps if our school has a personality type, we would hope it is one still learning, still growing and always seeking to care well for the people within it.
