We are incredibly proud of our Year 9/10 Readers Cup team, who achieved an outstanding second place at the recent Sunshine Coast Readers Cup competition! This wonderful result reflects the students’ dedication, teamwork and passion for reading. Preparing for the Readers Cup takes commitment – from reading widely to remembering countless characters, plots and details, and working together under pressure at the competition. This year, it also meant going into a tie-breaker round to secure second place, and for the first time, we had sisters from different year levels competing together on the same Readers Cup team.
Our students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and grace, demonstrating their impressive recall skills and the value of collaboration and perseverance. We are thrilled to celebrate their achievement and the way they represented our College. Read on to hear directly from the Year 9/10 Readers Cup team members, as they reflect on their experiences:
This year was a lot of fun for me. It was a great experience reading the books, and I had a lot of fun quizzing the other members in preparation for the competition. We had to read 4 books, and it was interesting to read the different stories and challenging to remember the specifics! Especially since I got to practice and participate with my sister (which was another interesting experience in itself!) I really enjoyed preparing for the books with the team, which was a great way to learn more about each other and just work better as a team in general. There was also a lot of competition against other schools on the night, and it was a great challenge coming 2nd after a tiebreaker round! I totally recommend other students participating in next year’s Reader’s Cup!

I was really grateful to be a part of the team; despite it being a lot of hard work, it was really fun. I loved the whole experience, the competition, my team members, and winning! Thankful that at my last chance at it, we did so well!

It was a great experience, honestly; it was a lot of work though. By the end, some of my books couldn’t even be read with all of the notes coming out of them! Also, getting second place was awesome, and the highest place I’ve ever received.
– Nina
The entire experience was very good. I loved reading books I had never read before and quizzing my teammates in preparation for the competition. That night, it was exciting (and terrifying) to see all the other schools compete. Answering the questions as quickly as we could was challenging, but it felt great seeing that most of our answers were correct. The tie-breaker round was especially exciting because I don’t believe they’ve ever had one before, and we won it! Getting our medals and going home celebrating made me really happy. I’m proud of my younger sister, my teammates, and myself, especially since our school has never had siblings on a team before. I’m really grateful to have been part of the team, especially as for most of us, it was our last Readers Cup competition. I strongly suggest that everyone who loves reading gives it a go.

The final Sunshine Coast Regional Readers Cup competition for 2026 will be our Year 7 team, who will compete in early Term 4. Inspired by the enthusiasm and skill of our older Readers Cup teams, our Year 7 students are ready to take on the reading challenge, work together as a team and, most importantly, enjoy all the excitement of Readers Cup!
