This term, we are excited to introduce The Maker’s Place—a new learning space where creativity, problem-solving, and purpose come together.
The Maker’s Place is designed as a classroom for exploration, where students engage in Design Thinking and develop personal and social capabilities through hands-on learning and collaboration.
At the heart of The Maker’s Place is the belief that we are all created in God’s image, and therefore created to be makers, thinkers, and problem solvers. As students design, build, test, and refine ideas, they are encouraged to take risks, persevere through challenges, and view mistakes as an important and valuable part of the learning journey.
In this space, mistakes are not something to fear; they are stepping stones that help students grow in confidence, resilience, and understanding.
STEM learning plays a key role in The Maker’s Place, with students using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to create thoughtful solutions to real-world problems. A central focus of Design Thinking is learning to empathise. Students are guided to listen carefully, consider different perspectives, and focus their ideas on helping others.
Empathy shifts thinking from “What can I make?” to “Who am I serving?”—reflecting Christ’s example of compassion and love.
The Maker’s Place also places a strong emphasis on collaboration, leadership, listening, and social skills. Students learn to work as a team, share ideas respectfully, lead with humility, and value the strengths of others.
Aligning with the classroom learning program, The Maker’s Place is a community where faith and learning meet. As students create and innovate together, they are reminded that this is God’s place, and they are called to use their gifts wisely to serve others and care for His world.
