On Thursday 17 June, the following Primary students participated in the Year 5/6 Sunshine Coast Regional Readers Cup Competition. The students proudly represented the College and competed against 25 other Readers Cup teams to showcase their amazing reading and comprehension skills.

The team included:

Naarah Harvey Year 6
The Readers Cup is organised by the Queensland Branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia and is a state wide competition for young readers from Year 5-10 that challenges students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and develop their love of reading.
In 2021 there were:
- 765 RC teams
- 553 school campuses
- 432 RC teams from Year 5 and 6
- 226 RC teams from Year 7 and 8
- 107 RC teams from Year 10
- 9311 estimated readers
- 32802 books read
We commend the teams’ commitment to prepare and compete in the competition and for sharing their passion for reading. This week they celebrated their achievements with our Primary Millionaire Lexile Readers.
Here are Aimee Augustin’s reflections on being part of the Year 5/6 Readers Cup team:
Readers Cup was an awesome experience. It was so much fun! We started with a mini competition at school, where we read a short text and answered questions about it to be selected for the team. I didn’t get through last year, but persevered and was thrilled to get on the team this year. We then read, read, read – 5 novels in total. We had weekly meetings on Wednesdays and Fridays where we discussed the books and laughed a lot. On the day of the competition we travelled to Immanuel Lutheran College and went to the QBD pop-up store, had morning tea and then competed against all the other Readers Cup teams. We didn’t win, but we worked well as a team and had heaps of fun and that’s what mattered.
