QLD All Schools Oztag Competition

The QLD All Schools Oztag Competition has grown substantially from last year. This year the competition was initially capped at 250 team entries, before expanding to cater for a total of 318 school teams. The Kawana Sports Precinct and Western Soccer Fields were overflowing with teams and supporters throughout the weekend. The music, fast-paced games and variety of year levels involved in the competition were a fantastic experience.

Over the course of Term 2 and the beginning of Term 3, select Year 6 students trained during their lunch breaks in readiness for the fierce rounds of competition. Our Year 6 girls team comprised of 15 students, while our Year 6 boys team comprised of 13 students. With eight players on the field during games, these numbers provided ample substitution for both teams; however, a week out from the competition the Year 6 cohort was struck with the winter flu. On Day 1 of the All Schools Competition the boys’ team was left with only one sub, before having to compete one player down on the field the following day. Luckily, three players from the girls’ team rescued the boys from having to forfeit from the competition. After putting in a five-hour day on Day 2 of the competition, these three girls backed up their Saturday with a tough evening of games with the boys.

At the end of the three-day competition, our girls’ team finished 3rd in Pool B, while our boys’ team placed 6th in Pool A. Special mention to Jackson Greig, wearing jersey number 1, who was selected as part of the QLD All Schools Merit Team.

NRL Development Lesson

In Week 2 of Primary PE this term, the NRL Development coaches visited each year level during their scheduled PE lessons. Students enjoyed participating in a range of activities and games. An NRL afterschool program is being offered during Term 3, which is scheduled to take place each Wednesday afternoon for six weeks, from 3pm – 4pm on the Eastern Oval.
