Last term, our students joined in Queensland School Library Week (QSLW). This annual event celebrates the important role school libraries play in helping students develop a love of reading and learning for life. It’s a special time to recognise the great work done by Teacher Librarians and library staff across Queensland.
The theme for this year was Window to the World, reminding us how books and stories encourage us to explore new places, ideas, and perspectives. Whether it’s diving into a favourite novel or discovering facts in a non-fiction book, reading opens up a world of possibilities for young minds.
Many students entered the QSLW competition, where:
- Prep – Year 2 students created colourful artworks based on their favourite story.
- Year 3 – Year 6 students produced artwork around the theme Window to the World.
- Year 7 – 12 Produce an artwork or take a photograph to reflect the theme, Window to the World.
Congratulations to Finn Somers from Year 2, Pippa Rode from Year 6, and Lilly Rawlins from Year 8, our GCC 2025 QSLW winners, whose entries were sent to the Statewide Competition. Although they weren’t among the overall state winners this year, we’re incredibly proud to share that their entries were featured on the official QSLW website – a fantastic achievement!
The following students were highly commended for their entries.
Year 1 – Skylah Moore
Year 3 – Ayla White
Year 4 – Alana Watson-Brown
Year 5 – Scarlett Ashley
