Nicole Morris enjoyed the experience of her lifetime when she travelled to Thailand to compete in the 2018 Bangkok Girls Football Cup. This is the only all girls competition sanctioned by the Asian Football Confederation [AFC]. The competition invites two Australian teams and four Asian teams to compete each year in a variety of age groups.
Nicole, who normally plays for the BeeGees, was selected to join the Queensland National Premier League team Sunshine Coast Wanderers Under 13 Girls as the only Australian team in this age group.
The team performed well against the talented opposition with three wins, a draw and two losses to finish 4th overall on goal difference. Chanburi Sports School won the 13 year girls’ competition. They were outstanding and had half the Thai National team in their squad.
Nicole was the S.C.Wanderers equal highest scorer with five goals in six games. She was also equal second highest scorer at the tournament for her age group and scored the goal of the tournament for her age group. Nicole even had her photo in the local newspaper after that goal!
Nicole normally plays as an attacking mid fielder, however the S.C.Wanderers played her on the left wing for the whole of the tournament. She had never played in this position before but really shone in this competition. Under the guidance of coach Rui Spinola her ball skills have improved immensely and her determination was amazing at this tournament.
Nicole had an awesome time in Thailand and this fantastic experience at international level has made her hungry to go to greater heights with her football.
