In Book Week, the College Pastors wanted to raise the profile of the most important book of all in our College community. Partnering with our Student Voice body and the Bible Society, we raised money to fund Bibles going overseas.
We were inspired by the story of Brother Andrew, a Polish Christian who smuggled Bibles to places where it was illegal to own them in his Volkswagen Beetle in the 1950s. We set up our display with a classic Beetle stacked with Bibles, just like Brother Andrew’s would have been.
Students and staff could purchase ice blocks and then had the opportunity to choose which of three countries they wanted to send Bibles to.
From Tuesday to Friday we raised enough money to send 140 Bibles to China, Prisons in South Africa and Kenya. We are hoping that “Blocks for Bibles” will continue to be a big fundraising event in our college calendar in the future. Thank you to all those who donated and supported this vital cause.
