Wednesday, our Middle School leaders stepped into the spotlight, proving that belonging isn’t just taught, it’s led. Then came Thankful Thursday, where the library windows transformed into a living gratitude wall. Every scribble of chalk was a tiny declaration: I see the good, and I’m part of it.

If school spirit had a highlight reel, You Belong Week just dropped a cinematic masterpiece. From sun-soaked Ring Road welcomes (yes, it was hotter than expected… again) to kindness-fuelled chaos in the GPAC foyer, this week has been bursting with connection, colour, and just the right amount of Chupa Chup-powered joy.

Monday kicked things off with smiling faces, posters in hand, and a gentle reminder that belonging sometimes starts with something as simple as showing up. ChooseKind Tuesday turned the foyer into a kindness carnival, complete with a photobooth celebrating “the I in kind,” sweet treats, and a Food Drive supporting Urban Angels. 

And just when you thought it couldn’t get better, Friday arrived in full colour. Cultural Dress Up Day reminded us that belonging doesn’t mean blending in; it means being seen, celebrated, and valued for exactly who you are.

Here’s the truth at the heart of it all: belonging isn’t a bonus feature at GCC, it’s the foundation. When students feel like they matter, everything changes. Confidence grows. Kindness multiplies. Community becomes something you can actually feel, not just talk about.

So yes, You Belong Week has been marvellous. But more than that, it’s been a reminder that belonging isn’t confined to one week. It’s something we build every day, in every small moment, with every intentional act of kindness.

And honestly? That’s the kind of legacy worth celebrating.
