This term, Carol McKee, our Future Pathways Coordinator, has been working closely with our Year 8 students through two exciting workshops. As many of them approach their 14th birthdays, the desire to find part-time jobs has been growing, and Carol has been there to guide them every step of the way. From exploring job opportunities to understanding the application process and preparing for those all-important first job interviews, she has been helping students confidently take their first steps into the world of work.
One of the key challenges for Year 8 students is creating a resume, especially when they haven’t yet had any formal work experience. Carol has been invaluable in this area, helping them craft strong resumes by focusing on their unique skills, personal qualities, and any relevant school or extracurricular activities. She’s offered great advice on how to present themselves in the best possible light, while also teaching them what to include and what to leave out.
Armed with their polished resumes and newfound knowledge, our Year 8 students are now well-prepared to tackle the summer job market. They’ve learned how to highlight their potential, how to approach employers, and how to make a strong impression in interviews. As they look forward to earning some pocket money, they’ll also be gaining valuable experience that will benefit them in future job opportunities.
So, as summer approaches, keep an eye out—you may just see some of our Year 8 students stepping into their very first roles within the local community, making the most of their holidays while learning important life skills!
