On Tuesday, Year 8 students had the opportunity to hear from Sam Clear, an adventurer and speaker known for his incredible journey of walking around the world. His presentation was centred around themes of resilience, unity, and the importance of understanding global challenges.

Students were captivated by Clear’s storytelling ability, with one student, Xane , stating, “I think that was one of the best speakers I’ve ever listened to. He made it interesting, he was to the point, he knew how to tell the story well and he had multiple activities and videos that were really fun to do and watch.”

Clear shared personal anecdotes, including the harrowing experiences he faced during his travels, such as nearly dying multiple times. Harry remarked on this, saying, “Sam was funny, and I think nearly dying 11 times is crazy. Praying for unity is a good cause.”

The presentation also highlighted the various struggles faced by people in different countries, prompting reflections on gratitude for our own circumstances. Eli noted, “I found it interesting how he didn’t give up when he hurt both of his legs and when he got attacked.” Meanwhile, Harley expressed appreciation for the insights into global issues, emphasising how fortunate we are to have basic necessities like housing.

Overall, Sam Clear’s visit left a significant impact on the students, encouraging them to think critically about their roles in promoting unity and understanding in a diverse world.
