This term, Year 7 Geography is learning about the ‘liveability’ of different places in the world. In week three Year 7 Geography students went on an excursion in Beerwah. In this fieldwork-based excursion the students were involved in assessing the quality of the constructed or built environment of Beerwah. The excursion was mainly based on surveying the buildings, streetscapes and infrastructure of Nichols Avenue, Peachester Road and Simpson Sreet.
The students had fun while walking around in these areas, taking photos and recording their observations. Half way through their excursion, students had a well-deserved break in a local park. After this, everyone continued on their journey, lastly going to Simpson Street before heading back to school.
Students had to also assess Beerwah in terms of the town’s public spaces, education, healthcare, cultural experiences and businesses. The excursion gave students a new awareness and appreciation of the communities in which we all live.
