Year 7 focuses on ‘overcoming obstacles’

Term 2 was full of many highlights for Year 7 students, with an overall focus on ‘overcoming obstacles’. The new format of online NAPLAN testing in the middle of the term was finished off with a celebration of how the students are quickly learning new things and overcoming many hurdles by spending time on a giant inflatable obstacle course and other inflatable activities.

The students had studied the texts ‘Soul Surfer’ and ‘Mud, Sweat and Tears’ in FUSE, again learning about overcoming obstacles from other people’s stories and how it is important to dig deep to overcome tough things in our lives and to build resilience. We finished the term on the last day with a very special guest speaker, Mrs Trish Jackson, who has a disability as a result of being a thermaldahyde baby. She talked to the students and inspired them, showing them how she writes and draws amazingly beautiful and detailed pictures just with her feet.

We then celebrated the end of another fabulous term with a shared morning tea provided by the students and their parents/carers. They specifically shared a food item that was traditional or held special significance to their family. It was a delicious and wonderful spread of food. How generous everyone is in Year 7!
