Year 7 and 8 Food Technology

What a year so far in the Junior Kitchen! Our Year 7 and 8 students have had fantastic opportunities to upskill themselves during their visit with us. They have learned how to be safe in the kitchen and be aware of bacteria and food poisoning. We have learned the different ways we can improve our personal and kitchen hygiene both at school and at home. In Middle School, our aim is to improve confidence and skills in a kitchen environment that is similar to the one we have at home. Students have been exposed to gas cooktops, ovens, and a wide range of kitchen equipment.

Some families might have been luckier than others; some of the school-cooked foods have made it home! We hope you have enjoyed it! Most of our students can’t resist the food they cook and eat it in our Hospitality Courtyard before the end of their lesson! You can tell by the smile on their face that they are really proud of their end result. If you would like to try some of our recipes, you are more than welcome to browse our class page and see what’s available in our File Box where you will find all the recipes that we cook for your child’s year level.

Our Year 9 students have also been busy thus far; being exposed to different methods of cooking and finding ways to recreate their favourite takeaway meals. We obviously ask them to find healthier ways to cook and challenge them to find healthy alternatives to ingredients that are not part of the Australian Guideline to Healthy Eating. For some, that proved to be quite challenging. However, students have been very open-minded and tried recipes that are far from their comfort zone. We are so proud of this young generation for giving it a go.
