Year 5 Robotics

Over the course of the year the students in Year 5 have had the opportunity to explore the world of robotics, coding and computational thinking using the WeDo 2.0 Lego robotic kits.

In Term 1 the students familiarised themselves with the lego pieces in the kit, they learnt how to connect a smart hub to their computers to drive their robot and how to activate a smart sensor. Students had the opportunity to investigate and trial a range of coding sequences and programming blocks.

In Term 3 the focus was building space rovers to drive through moon craters, sweep moon dust for signs of life and minerals and pick up moon rocks. Students used trial and error and computational thinking to code 90 degree turns programming their robots to locate and return moon modules back to a moon base.

The final challenge was an open design challenge where the students designed and programmed their space rovers to perform an action of choice. The results were spectacular as were many of the intricate coding sequences.
