This term, Year 5 had a great day learning out of the classroom at the Gympie Gold Museum! There were so many interesting things to see and to do. As we walked around the museum, it was like we had stepped back in time. We were able to see the blacksmith working at his forge. He showed us how he uses the bellows to make the fire get hotter.
We looked at the giant stampers that they used to use to crush up the quartz to get the gold from the rocks that they brought out of the mine. We walked across a tall, thin bridge to the poppet head of the old Gympie Mine and found out that the mine goes 600m deep below the surface!
We all caught “Gold Fever” as we were panning for gold! It was such fun and if we found any, we were allowed to keep it! We found out how difficult it is to find gold and we were tricked by the fool’s gold a number of times!
