Last week, eighty-five excited Year 4 students headed off to Luther Heights Youth Camp up on the wonderful Sunshine Coast for a 3 day fun packed camp adventure. Students experienced team and individual activities that were both challenging and rewarding, ate appetising food, experienced great weather, climbed steep hills, witnessed amazing scenery, grew friendships and solved problems. The support staff and instructors encouraged and inspired students to push a little more past their comfort zones under the guidance of a safe and nurturing environment.
Some of the individual and team building activities had included body surfing, zip lining, koala climb, catapult building and rogaining (cross country navigation). Affirmations of ‘that was amazing’, ‘well done’, ‘congratulations’, to shouts of ‘you can do it’ and ‘I love this place’ and ‘what’s for tea’ echoed continuously throughout the days on camp.
Reflection: Some of the takeaways and lessons from camp
- Being a positive and encouraging role model to others
- Being responsible
- Ethics of grit, tenacity and self confidence
- Looking after your friends
- Listening to others
- Getting enough sleep!
