In Week 5, the Year 4 students embarked on a fun and exciting camp at Luther Heights. The camp was packed with thrilling activities such as the Flying Fox, Shape Climb, surfing and body boarding. Each day brought new experiences and challenges that pushed the students to step outside their comfort zones.
One student shared, “My favourite memory was racing all the way to the top of the high rock climbing walls.” Another said, “I loved the feeling of flying through the air on the zip line with the wind in my hair!”
Students also took part in team-building activities like Acid River, which required students to work together and think critically. “I found the Acid River team activity challenging—trying not to touch the ground took all our focus,” a student reflected. Throughout these tasks, we learned to listen, share ideas, and support one another. As one student put it, “I learned that I should be quiet and let others share their ideas.”
A standout moment from camp was the beach excursion, where students learned the fundamentals of surfing and bodyboarding. “My favourite memory was gliding through the waves on the surfboard,” one student shared. Another added, “Even though carrying all our gear under the hot sun was tough, the fun in the water made it worthwhile.”
After full and active days, the students were treated to delicious meals prepared by the amazing team at Luther Heights, giving them the energy they needed to keep going. Our staff were particularly impressed by the beautifully homemade soups, topped with crispy bacon, crunchy croutons, and fresh herbs.
Here are some key takeaways the students brought home from camp:
“Camp has taught us valuable life lessons—how to trust others, believe in ourselves, and try new things.” One student shared, “I learned to believe in yourself and never give up,” while another reflected, “Put your mind to it and step out of your comfort zone.”
Finally, a big shout out to all the amazing teachers—Adrian Ford, Lachlan Beach, Colan Coleman, Jamie Simmonds, Marlize Kasselman, Pastor Jacq, and Narelle Palmer—who joined in to make this camp an unforgettable experience!
