On Tuesday 10 March we held our first Year 3-6 Literacy Pro Parent Pipeline Session in the library. For those parents/caregivers that couldn’t attend here is the link to the slideshow presented. We are planning to hold these sessions every term this year to provide more opportunities to partner with families and to share our passion for supporting and nurturing a love of reading.
The Literacy Pro Program is used across Years 3-6 as the home reading at the College. Students complete a Literacy Pro test at the start of the year and repeat this process once a term to accurately assess their reading comprehension skills and to determine their Lexile level. This information is used to match students with ‘best fit books’ in their interest areas. Reading at this ‘target’ level offers sufficient challenge without frustration. Students are encouraged to read consistently and complete Lexile quizzes regularly, developing their comprehension skills, leading to reading improvement and increased reading stamina.
The Literacy Pro program uses high performing web-based technology and an innovative interface that can be accessed at home or school and allows students to track their progress in the ‘My Results Tab’ and be rewarded for their reading achievements. This year, students are working towards points goals and a new Millionaire’s Club that replaces our Dream Team Awards, with a new focus on the total number of words students read.
If you have any questions about the program please talk to your child’s class teacher in the first instance or contact the library staff at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to partnering with families to support home reading in 2020 and encouraging reading engagement and enjoyment at GCC this year.
