Year 1’s Excursion to Wildlife HQ

You could feel the excitement in the air last Thursday as the Year 1 team spent an exciting day at Wildlife HQ in Nambour. Wildlife HQ is home to native and exotic animals from around the world! In English, students are learning how to write information reports, and in Science, about how animals have needs and how their habitats meet those needs. We have been using all of this knowledge combined to write about amazing Australian animals.

While we were at Wildlife HQ, we took a closer look at spider monkeys, sun bears and hamadryas baboons with some fascinating Keeper Talks where we learnt about their habitat, physical features, and conservation of these beautiful animals. The students posed interesting questions and loved watching the animals in their enclosures.

Later we explored the zoo in our small groups, finding animals of all different shapes and sizes. A few of our favourites were the koalas, turtles, huge wombats, the very up close and personal encounters with the emus and of course the baboons. We boarded the bus at the end of the day with some exhausted students, parents and teachers. All had a fun day!
