On Wednesday, 20 May, the Year 10 Ag Prac class had the privilege of visiting Pim’s Organic Farm and learning from owner Pim Mens about sustainable and organic farming practices.

Pim generously showed students around her primary growing property, explaining how she successfully grows strawberries and a variety of other crops without the use of pesticides or herbicides. Students were fascinated to learn about natural pest management strategies, including Pim’s partnership with a company called “Bugs for Bugs,” which provides beneficial insects to control pest species naturally.

The class then travelled to a second property where Pim is preparing organic produce for the upcoming June/July holiday season. Visitors to the farm will have the opportunity to pick their own organic produce fresh from the paddock.

It was wonderful to see the students roll up their sleeves and get involved, planting seedlings and spreading sugar cane mulch while gaining hands-on experience in organic farming practices.

The visit concluded with Pim generously treating the students and teachers to her delicious homemade strawberry sorbet — a fitting end to a fantastic day of learning, service, and connection with the land.
