It is not often we have the opportunity for a special parenting event with specialist guest speakers like we did on Monday so you might be surprised to hear that we have another treat in store for you, but more on that later.
I hope you were able to attend the parenting seminar on Monday with Melinda Tankard Reist and Daniel Principe. Melinda and Daniel outlined the pressures that our children are continually subjected to by media and harmful trends that distort their self-image. Fortunately, Melinda and Daniel weren’t there to scare us but to inform us as parents on how to help our children navigate the online world they live in and how to resist the harmful messages they are bombarded with.
I hope you found the session as informative and helpful as I did. I’m sure our students and staff also found Melinda and Daniel’s expertise beneficial during their talks earlier in the day.
What is your parenting style?
Do you know what your parenting style is? Dr Justin Coulson, founder of ttp://happyfamilies.com.au/ co-host and parenting expert on Channel 9’s Parental Guidance has designed a quiz that shows your parenting style.
Dr Justin Coulson coming to GCC
Regardless of your parenting style quiz result, Dr Coulson will have helpful advice when he takes two parenting seminars at GCC on Tuesday 6 September.
Seminar 1 for parents and caregivers of young children

The first seminar is called ‘Little People, Big Feelings!’ As you may have guessed, it is especially for parents of young children. How do you cope when your child has a tantrum in the chocolate aisle of Woolworths? How do you handle meltdowns when nothing seems to work? ‘Little People, Big Feelings’ is Dr Justin Coulson’s powerful guide to helping parents teach their children to understand and regulate their emotional world.
This seminar is in GPAC on Tuesday 6 September between 9am and 10:30am.
Seminar 2 for parents and caregivers of all ages

Of the four parenting styles, is there a right way to parent? Dr Coulson will be addressing this topic, identifying specific strategies that parents can use to build happier, more loving families. He will be covering the following subjects:
• The evidence-based pros and cons of the most popular parenting styles.
• The 3 research-founded principles that underscore the very best parenting.
• Ideas for discipline that turn everything you thought you knew on its head.
• Skills and habits to help your family and children grow to be the best they can be.
This seminar is in GPAC on Tuesday 6 September between 6:30pm and 8pm. It will be a relaxed time with plenty of opportunities to ask questions of Dr Coulson.
Dr Coulson has made a special invitation video for GCC parents and caregivers which you can watch below:
