With all the wet weather we are experiencing lately I thought it would be a good time to remind everyone what our procedures are during these weather events.
In all cases, we are guided by the buses that service our College. The bus companies know the roads thoroughly and are up-to-date with how the weather conditions are affecting them.
If a bus company advises us of any issues then we will immediately send a text message to all the families concerned and take the necessary steps to ensure the safe passage of students to their homes.
In one instance last year the bus companies advised us that they would not be running due to the condition of the roads and we actually closed the school for the day. This was also at the advice of Queensland Education and the Department of Transport. It turned out to be a beautiful sunny (albeit, soggy) day but we will always default to the advice of the bus companies and consult with other relevant authorities. Erring on the side of caution is important when it comes to the safety of our students.
Therefore, if you haven’t heard from us on a day of heavy rain then you can rest assured that the bus companies and authorities deem it safe for normal transport routines to be performed.
We understand that many of our families live on farms or near creeks that often experience localised flooding. If you are ever concerned about your own situation then you are more than welcome to make arrangements to collect your child early.
