Welcome to the start of Term 3

I would like to welcome you all back to school and extend a very warm welcome to the new families and children who have joined us this term.

PARENTAL PRESENCE ON THE CAMPUS

It seems strange to be welcoming you back to school while at the same time asking you to keep your distance and to restrict coming onto the campus. With the current COVID-19 situation in Australia we are continuing to implement safe practices and I would like to ask that you please continue to keep your little ones at home if they are unwell or if they present with flu-like symptoms. I would also like to thank you for working together with us in our efforts to keep everyone healthy and safe.

EXTENDED HOLIDAY OR ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

Please be reminded that we are required to record extended periods of absence during school time. Please make an appointment to meet with me or email me if your child is going to have a period of extended absence from school.

If a student misses 10 or more consecutive days of school, an Exemption from Compulsory School Participation form will need to be completed, approved and signed off by Mike Curtis, our College Principal.

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent-Teacher telephone interviews will take place next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition to these telephone interviews, we are hoping to be able to hold face-to-face meetings with you at the end of the term.

The interviews will be conducted by phone and are optional.

You will be able to book consecutive appointments and teachers will call you at your scheduled time. Please go to https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code

The School Event Code is – c8jv5

YEAR 3 – 6 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL THURSDAY 27 JULY

Unfortunately due to Covid-19 and  Queensland Government requirements, we are unable to have any parents at the Athletics Carnival this year. We would like all students to come to school and travel by bus to Skippy Park. Children will travel back to school by bus.

Date: Thursday 23 July, 8:30am – 2:30pm
Venue: Skippy Park, Landsborough
Uniform: House shirts and comfortable running shoes
Transport: Buses run from GCC from 7:30am. Last bus leaves GCC at 8:20am
What to Bring: Hat, water bottle, lunch and snacks, appropriate sports shoes.

PLEASE NOTE: We will no longer be running a canteen on the day so please pack a substantial lunch with snacks, fruit and water for your child.

CHAPELS, ASSEMBLIES AND CITATIONS

As we are still restricted in terms of inviting parents to chapels and assemblies, citations will be up on Gateway and they will be mailed out to you.

Our focus in Assemblies this Semester is “The Power of Words”. We are going to have a purposeful focus on the kinds of words we use, how we speak to each other and how our words can impact others.

What does the Bible say about WORDS?

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer will calm a person’s anger. But an unkind answer will cause more anger.
Proverbs 15:4 As a tree gives us fruit, healing words give us life. But evil words crush the spirit.
Proverbs 18:20 What you say affects how you live. You will be rewarded by how you speak.

Please partner with us and discuss the words we use with your children at home over the coming weeks.

GATEWAY

Gateway continues to be our main platform for communicating with parents this term. Through Gateway you will receive notifications, special information specific to your child and teachers will be sharing learning and pictures. You can locate information on the Gateway Year Level page but also through the Gateway app which you can download if you have not done so already.

We are so blessed to have all your precious children back at school and we are looking forward to a productive and happy term.

Gail Mitchell – Head of Primary
