Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a relaxing time over the holidays and are feeling refreshed and ready for a new year. It is going to be an exciting, full year and I can’t wait for what lies ahead.
While we were relaxing at the beach, holidaying at exotic locations or spending time with family, our Property Team were working full steam ahead on big and small projects.
Our new industrial Hospitality kitchens, Dance studio and Drama rooms are all complete and look fantastic. I’m sure our students will really enjoy having such large, professional spaces for their learning.
Stage III is the construction of a 600-seat theatre which will begin later in the year. This long-awaited space will revolutionise many of our events and assemblies and will be the crowning glory in our three-stage Performing Arts Centre.
You will also notice that we have a new car park near Main Admin. It is a tight space and tricky to navigate safely so we have assigned the parks to specific staff members. Everyone benefits because this will free up more parking for families in the other car parks.
Other projects around the campus included widening the path outside the library right through to the front of Main Admin, laying a new floor on, and putting a fence around the Sports complex, erecting a creative safety screen in M Block, creating a garden outside Prep M, overhauling the carpark on the western side of the College and installing a loading bay, building a new Property centre, as well as the usual mulching, weeding, mowing, watering, cleaning and line marking.
Bible verse for 2020
This year our Bible verse is from Galatians 5:22-23. Last year we focussed on the root of the gospel in 2019: “For God loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16. This year we are focusing on the fruit of the gospel: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful world if everyone was showing the fruit of the Spirit!
Colours in the classroom
You will notice that this year there is a lot more colour around the campus. This is because this year as a staff we will be adopting a Dress Code rather than our Corporate Uniform of black and white for daily wear.
Rest assured dress will continue to reflect the high standards of the College and the consummate professionalism of our staff.
The Corporate Uniform will still be worn for special occasions such as Open Day, Anzac Services and our Dedication Service which happens in-school.
New staff in 2020
This has been our smallest intake of new staff with only three new employees! They have written briefly about themselves to help you get to know them.
Sydney Moore – College Pastor
Hello! My name is Sydney and I am the new Campus Pastor specialising in Middle and Senior School students.
Last year my family and I moved from the United States to Australia. My wife’s name is Terri and we have a five-year-old daughter called Harper who is in Year 1 at GCC. In March we are expecting a baby boy, Miles.
I have 13+ years experience with college, youth and children in the Church World. I love collecting vinyl records, cheering on the Phoenix Suns and surfing the beautiful waves of the Coast.
Rhema Hayes – Secondary Teacher
Hi! My name is Rhema Hayes and I am very excited to be joining the Glasshouse Christian College community as a Middle School English and Humanities teacher.
I am very passionate about my subject areas and the way they provide students with the opportunity to explore and develop their understanding of the world through stories and God’s beautiful creation.
Having grown up a Sunshine Coast local, I love this beautiful part of the world that we live in and count it an incredible blessing to work here and invest in the amazing students we have here at GCC. I look forward to seeing what the year brings and cannot wait to partner with parents to provide kids with a rich and exciting education.
Julie Woolf – Primary Teacher
Hi! My name is Julie Woolf, and it is my absolute privilege to be teaching Year 2 at GCC this year! I have been teaching for many years; my last school was St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy. I now live near my family on the beautiful Sunshine Coast with my little dog, Lulu.
Thank you for welcoming me.
GCC staff families were blessed with two little boys over the Christmas holidays. Both boys were born within four days of each other, weighed within 140 grams of each other and there was only half a centimetre difference in their length!
