This week, our U14 boys’ Rugby Union team played in our College’s first-ever 15-a-side rugby union match. Facing a well-regarded Sunshine Coast Grammar team, the boys showed incredible resilience and commitment in a tightly contested game.

The Grammar side came out strong, capitalising on a standout player who scored both their tries in the first half. With successful conversions, they took an early 14–0 lead. But our boys responded with character—Mason West broke through their defence to put us on the scoreboard before halftime.

The second half was all GCC. The boys lifted massively, putting in a huge effort and bringing a new level of intensity. What they gave away in size and strength, they made up for with speed, quick play, and sharp decision-making. Special credit goes to the team for adjusting defensively—after giving more attention to Grammar’s key player, they successfully shut him down and didn’t allow any more points.

Connor Bound added a second try in the second half, but unfortunately, we couldn’t convert from a very difficult angle, resulting in a narrow 14–12 loss.

It was an awesome game to watch and a performance full of promise. Tries came from Mason West and Connor Bound, with standout efforts across the park from Hudson O’Brien, Connor Bound, Mason West, and Elliot Rowlands.

The team now looks forward to their next two games in Week 3, Vs Matthew Flinders AC (MFAC – 5:15 pm, Wednesday the 7th of May), followed by a game vs Immanuel LC (Beerwah – 1:50 pm, Friday the 9 of May).

Training will now continue to take place on Fridays during Middle School sports time.
