The Year 6 Girls and Year 6 Boys touch football teams came home as winners on the last day of term winning both B division competitions.
The girls have been training hard against the boys which obviously paid off as they won every game and only had 1 try scored against them in all their six games. Sophie Trevan and Jaylah Daunt were outstanding and combined well to score many of the teams 42 tries. The team kept great position on the field making quick touches to stop the opposition gaining ground on attack. Fast rucking in attack allowed the girls to quickly move up the field and score tries.
The boys were sitting in second place going into the last day of competition and gained enough points to play in the final. They played Glasshouse State School who they had a 4 – 4 draw with in game one that day. With some great tactics from Mr Rogers they scored a great win, beating them 5 – 1 in the final to become B division Champions! Most of the boys were rugby leagues players who did not take too long to transfer their skills to touch football. We are very proud of both teams as it is not often that GCCC wins both girls and boys’ competitions.
Year 7 touch players have been playing together with their Year 8 team mates in an after school SCISSA competition so were ready to take on the Glasshouse teams. Both girls and boys teams were placed in fifth position after day 1 but with some great games on day 2 the boys played off for 3rd and 4th positions. They were missing several players but Ethan Sauer and Josiah Rogers joined them but they still only had seven players. They never gave up playing hard; playing a team they had earlier drawn with. They boys were exhausted with only one sub and finished in 4th position overall.
The Year 7 girls were also missing several players but managed to play well as a team. Unfortunately Carley Wagner was injured in the first game of the day but the girls played on well in the 5th/6th final to gain a great win and finish in 5th place.
Special thanks go to Desley Palmer and Craig who refereed all the year 6 games releasing Mr Rogers and Mrs Stott to simply coach their teams. Maybe that’s the secret to winning!! Parents were also fantastic supporters, cheering, refilling water bottles, keeping the players energised with snacks and providing much needed shade for subs. The Interschool sport to be played in term 4 is AFL.
We hope to have photos to you shortly.
