During the weekend Emma and Madison Small competed in the Triathlon Queensland All Schools Triathlon Championships where both girls were hoping to qualify to compete at the State Championships in Hervey Bay next January. Unfortunately, final results have not yet been posted but we think Emma placed 9th overall and Maddie about 30th.
The girls were in two different age groups so completed either a 300m/500m swim, 10km/15km cycle and a 2.5km/4km run which they completed comfortably. There were competitors from schools from all over South East Queensland and competition was fierce. The event was held at Lake Kawana and the surrounding roads and paths.
Five Primary students were all ready to race their Aquathlon event but storms came over with lightning just as Hayden Cullen’s race was preparing to start. The race prior to his was stopped due to lightning and all races were postponed for the day. This was very disappointing for our young athletes who have been preparing for these races and had all their gear set up in the transition area.
Students enjoyed the opportunity to train for this event and look forward to racing it at a later stage or competing again next year. Students ready to compete were Hayden Cullen, Isla McNeil, Corbie McNeil, Estelle Collins and Hadley Smith.
