Shelby Daunt had an awesome start to the IGA Little Athletics Queensland State Championships. In her first State Champs she sped around the track in the 9 year girls’ 800m race walk remaining completely disciplined to win a medal and take out third place in the event. Shelby has trained hard for this event so it was great to see her rewarded for her hard work which also resulted in her clocking a personal best time. She was thrilled to receive her medal from Sally Pearson, Olympic Gold Medallist and World Champion in 100m hurdles.
Jaylah Daunt and Laura Vobr also competed in five events between them in the 11 year girls’ long jump, shot put and discus. The girls both finished in the middle of the field amidst tough competition but it was in the discus that they both excelled. Jaylah finished 13th out of 28 girls and Laura put the shot exceptionally well to gain an impressive fifth place with a personal best put.
Ryan Sauer shone in the 13 year boys’ shot put event showing his strength and technique to place fourth in the State against strong opposition. He put the shot 11.31 metres which was a personal best put for him and signals a great school athletics season coming up.
Andrea Little also competed well in the 15 year girls’ discus event where she placed seventh from 22 girls, which was a well-earned result.
Tom Dwan, and Cassidy Ferris also represented Glasshouse Little Athletics well competing in hurdle, shot put and sprint events.
