Congratulations to Chloe Rae and Amelia Huges who are finalists in the Wild HeART Student Art Prize this year. There were more than 200 entries so this is a remarkable achievement for our students.
“The Wild HeART Student Art Prize is a celebration of Australian native fauna, flora and fungi through the eyes of Queensland children and young people. This inaugural competition is a Sunshine Coast community enterprise initiated by Sunshine Coast Council.” (from the Wild HeART website)
The Wild HeART Student Art Prize was established to encourage young artists to explore their connection with nature and biodiversity. This exciting competition invites students from schools across the Sunshine Coast to express their creativity and passion for the environment through visual art. With categories tailored to different age groups, from primary to secondary students, the competition ensures that artists of all levels have the opportunity to participate.
Exhibition and Public Engagement
One of the most exciting aspects of the Wild HeART Student Art Prize is the annual exhibition. The selected artworks are displayed in the Maroochy Arts and Ecology Centre on Palm Creek Road during these September school holidays. It is the perfect event for the school holidays as it is inspirational, educational, fun and, best of all, entry is free. The exhibition also serves as an excellent educational tool, learning about the importance of environmental conservation and biodiversity through the lens of art.
The Wild HeART Student Art Prize is more than just an art competition; it’s a celebration of creativity, nature, and youth. By providing a platform for young artists to express themselves and connect with the environment, this event enriches the cultural and ecological landscape of the Sunshine Coast. As we continue to face environmental challenges, initiatives like the Wild HeART Student Art Prize inspire hope for a brighter, more sustainable future.
If you have a young artist in your family, or if you simply appreciate the beauty of nature and art, the Wild HeART Student Art Prize is an event that should not be missed. It embodies the idea that art has the power to inspire change and offers a promising glimpse into the creative minds of our future environmental stewards.
It is too late to enter in 2023 but enjoying the exhibition could be just the inspiration the artist in your family needs to pursue the goal in 2024.
