The new face of the GCC Dance Academy

For those who have not already met Tammy, the College is excited to have such a professional and dedicated dance teacher to run the GCC Dance Academy from Term 3.

Tammy has dedicated her career to Dance and has spent 10 years dancing professionally around the globe. She returned to her hometown of Christchurch, NZ in early 2009 from Sydney, Australia where she was working with Grayboy Entertainment as a teacher/choreographer for P&O Australia and Princess Cruises. In this role, she was primarily teaching and installing the new production shows on board and training casts.

Previously, Tammy was the Dance Captain for P & O M/V Dawn and the Tahitian Princess and also worked on Regent cruises for PGT Entertainment (USA) and Festival Cruises with Rios Productions (Paris). Tammy has worked as a dancer, teacher and choreographer for the Dance Company “Jazz Du funk” in Shanghai and toured regularly for international events and companies such as Millionaire Fair, Audi, Lancôme, Jaguar and many more.

Tammy is trained and qualified in Tap (NZAMD), Ballet (RAD) and Jazz (NZAMD). In 2001 she studied full-time training at Brent Street Studios in Sydney. In Tammy’s school years, she was awarded various NZ dance tittles and championships and was also awarded a scholarship to DW301 in Melbourne and was Runner up in the 2000 PACANZ Nationals.

In 2009, Tammy established her own dance studio MC Elite Dance which rapidly grew to more than 200 students. Her students worked and competed to a high standard within New Zealand and Australia. Students were aged between 3 and 17 years and trained in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Acrobatics and Conditioning/Stretch. Throughout the years they competed at local and international competitions with a high success rate and were also a semi-finalist on TVNZ “New Zealand’s got talent” and performed regularly on TV and at the annual Coca Cola Christmas in the Park festival.

Tammy’s students sat major examinations in all genres and also performed at two large concerts that the school put together. Tammy sold her studio in 2015 to pursue her husband’s career by travelling with him onboard cruise ships and raising their two young daughters. Tammy is excited to be back into teaching and dance and passing on her knowledge to young and enthusiastic students.

Tammy will be teaching all the dance classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a new acro teacher being sourced by Tammy.
