The Maleny Wood Expo is Returning in 2023

The Maleny Wood Expo is a 3 day event hosted by Barung Landcare, at the Maleny Showgrounds in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The Expo is an environmental education event that also brings together some of the finest woodworkers and crafts people from across Australia to share knowledge through an immersive program of displays, workshops, educational talks and demonstrations.

The Junior Landcare Paddock provides a wonderful space for young people to work with natural materials, and learn from an older generation of experienced woodworkers about traditional wood craft techniques. For all workshops, all materials are supplied and complete beginners are welcome!

Some highlights Include:

Build a Canoe

Join experienced Boat Builder Brian Jones for a 3 day workshop where teams of young people, schools, friends or families come together to learn how to build a fully functioning (and floating) canoe from scratch!

Perfect for students showing an interest in woodworking, as well as anyone who would like to get a team together and have some fun.

Brian has been working with schools and outdoor adventure groups for many years, teaching the rewarding art of boatbuilding to a younger generation. More info here.

Cool Stool School

Build your own three-legged stool from scratch with the Bayside Woodies. A fantastic workshop to safely develop skills in tool use to create small pieces of furniture. More info here.

Traditional tools and music clap sticks

Join Stan Ceglinski for daily interactive workshops and demonstrations on traditional tool use, where children get to learn a variety of old-time skills and make music clap sticks they can take home! More info here.

Build a kid’s cubby from weeds and recycled sheets!

Kris Martin will be working with the crowd to make a kid’s cubby from scratch which will be auctioned off on the Monday. This a great opportunity to learn new skills in working with natural, sustainable materials. More info here.

See the full children’s program and more information about the Junior Landcare Paddock here.

There is so much more on the program and plenty for the adults too!

Including native Garden for Wildlife displays, plant sales, live entertainment, workshops, tools, timber, furniture and fine art.
