Many club finals have been taking place over the past few weeks and several of our Glasshouse Christian College students have been involved in these.
Maleny Rangers Joshua and Ben Ramke played their 12 Boys Division two final against Bribie Island on Saturday. What a tight game this was as Bribie Island were Minor Premiers and Maleny were determined to win the game and take the Sunshine Coast title. After regulation time the score was locked at nil-all with Maleny having the better of the game but just not able to score. Twenty minutes extra time was needed and it seemed that a penalty shootout would be next but with just two minutes to go Maleny scored the match-winning goal to claim the championship. To top off the weekend Josh and Bens’ team won the Maleny Rangers Team of the Year award at the club prizegiving and Josh was nominated for Most Outstanding Junior Club Footballer. Josh and Ben played really well in midfield and were dangerous in attack and also solid in defence.
Declan Martin and Jacob Barbeler also featured in the finals winning the Sunshine Coast Championship for the sixth year in a row with their Under 16 year Caloundra FC team. They played against Noosa FC in the final and dominated the game, winning 3 – 1. Declan and Jacob were integral members of the team controlling the ball well and playing through towards goal on many occasions.
Congratulations to all students who have played in club teams throughout the year. It is fantastic to see so many students committed to training and playing each week.
