On Sunday, August 20, three GCC students, Amelia Hughes, Isabella Buckland, and Micah  Matthews-Frederick, participated in the annual MLTAQ Speech Contest at USC. In this competition, students compete in their chosen language and their year-level division. The speech needs to be memorised and is performed in front of a panel of native speakers. This in itself can be very daunting.

This year’s results demonstrate the great effort our students put into their French studies. Amelia Hughes competed in the Year 8 French division against 15 other students from various schools and was awarded First Place for her well-written and confident speech. Isabella Buckland was Awarded Highly Commended for the Year 9 French Division, which is also an excellent achievement. Micah did not place this year, but considering that the Year 7 division is the largest division with over 20 students competing, he should be very proud of his performance.
