Students have a blast at T20 Cricket

What a blast was had by 28 Year 5 and 6 students when they competed in the Glasshouse T20 Blast Cricket Day at the end of the term. The aim of the day was to give students the opportunity to play games of T20 cricket and experience the excitement of fast paced short games of cricket. Every player must bowl one over, and also rotate around every fielding position during the eight over innings and then bat two overs with a partner. If players are out, five points are added to the opposition’s score rather than the batter being put out. Boundaries and short so many fours and sixes can be scored which makes the game a lot of fun.

GCC had three teams play in this competition which catered for all abilities of players. Our A team won all their pool games and played St Michael’s in the final. The boys were sent in to bat first and struggled to continue hitting their trademark big shots due to the tight bowling from the St Michael’s players. The game finished with St Micheal’s winning after they were able to put several balls over the boundary to gain more runs than GCC had scored. The GCC team were very proud to finish as runners up in the competition.

The B and C teams both had a couple of wins during the day with the B team winning their final finishing in 5th place and the C team finishing 7th. Some great bowling, batting and fielding were seen from these teams and players certainly learned lots about T20 cricket. For several students this was their first taste of Interschool Sport and they certainly enjoyed the day of cricket.
