Six Year 5, 6 and 7 students have been busy competing at different Sunshine Coast Regional Championships lately.
Hunter Rees, Eli Hardey-Abdy and Callum Rana spent Thursday and Friday at the 12-year-old Sunshine Coast Rugby Union Championships. The boys played four games, winning two, losing one and drawing one game. The GGC boys were important members of the team showing determination and skill with Callum setting up a try. Hunter played flanker and gained many metres and Eli played on the wing. The boys made some great tackles against often much bigger opposition.
Olivia joined other keen girls from the Glasshouse area and played some great Rugby League at the Sunshine Coast Championships. Olivia and several of the girls played in the team last year and their experience showed. Olivia played four games as a second row player and worked really well with the first receiver. She ran the ball well and made many perfect tackles around the legs of the opposition. Olivia also managed to break through the line and score a try which was a highlight for her. She was selected to play in the Possibles/Probables game which was also an honour. She played really well in this game but just missed selection into the Sunshine Coast team.
Hannah Gassner also represented Glasshouse at the Regional Tennis Championships held over two days at the Kawana Tennis Club facility. Players compete in a round robin format on day one and the top 16 players qualify for day two of the competition. Hannah played really well on the first day and qualified top of her pool which qualified her to play on day two. Hannah is only in Year 4 but won the first two rounds of day two and proceeded to the quarter finals. She played an extremely close game and narrowly lost by just one point! This placed her in fifth place overall on the Sunshine Coast just one place away from representing the Sunshine Coast at the State Championships. Hannah still has two more years in this competition so she is excited about next year’s competition.
These students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and opportunity to play their chosen sports at this high level and look forward to more opportunities in the future.
