What could be better than running through the park and bush of Beerwah on a glorious day at the end of term? Well, lots of us enjoyed racing and others enjoyed a more gentle jog gaining valuable house points.
War cries were loud and intimidating with each team trying to gain a psychological advantage even before racing began.
Races were run at a fast pace with most placegetters establishing themselves in the front in the first 300m. There were a few close races but most winners had established a comfortable lead during the race and finished strongly without having to battle it out in a sprint finish. The first race of the day did see a sprint finish though with Connor Bound and Bryce Hatcher sprinting up the home straight. Conner held onto the lead to win by just two seconds.
Eight year old Sophie Doyle led from the start and showed her class to win her eight year old race by almost three minutes!
Four nine year old girls ran a tough and close race with just 12 seconds separating first to third placings. Eadie Townsend proved the fittest and fastest and won the race ahead of Isla McNeil and Addie Stevens.
Izaac Kwarcianyi, Indigo Hetherington, Bailey Whitmey, Hayden Cullen, Breeanna Aldridge, Sarah Coumi and Oliver Thornton all won their races by a comfortable distance demonstrating how fit they are.
All placegetters were presented with ribbons and the house with the first four runners home in each age group was awarded Teams Race ribbons.
Sinai won the War Cry and cheer competition and these points were added to the total for the Primary Carnival. Points from all races and War Cries: 1st – Sinai 233 points, 2nd – Ararat 213 points, and 3rd – Zion 192 points.
